BLACK FRIDAY SALE EVENT AT RETRO KITTEN APPAREL + THANKSGIVING SALES ALL MONTH!

”BLACK FRIDAY” SALE EVENT ONLINE AT RETRO KITTEN APPAREL!

Retro Kitten Apparel is going to have a huge “Black Friday” Sale Event this year and we have the low down! Since we are an alternative online Retro, Rockabilly, Pin-up, Punk, Vintage, and Gothic clothing, shoes, and accessories store, our “Black Friday” Sale will begin at 12:01 a.m. Pacific Standard Time (PST) on Friday, 11/26/10.

The great thing about our “Black Friday” sale is the fact that it’s online and you never even have to leave your house. There are no mile long lines to wait in at 3:00 a.m. in the freezing cold just to have people who arrive at 5:00 a.m. walk right on in through the doors as soon as they open in front of everyone in line and you end up being the 47th customer inside only to find that the last one of the only item you wanted from that store was grabbed by the customer right before you. There is no fueding or fist fighting over who grabbed the last Wetsy Betsy. No fighting the masses trying to get every circled item from every store ad that, by the way, is no longer neatly folded and tucked in your purse, but spread all over your car and flying out the window. No getting trampled, and shoved, or having your heels rammed by mad shoppers armed with shopping carts.

That was just a few reasons why online shopping on “Black Friday”, especially at Retro Kitten Apparel, is the best way to get the best deals and all from within the warmth and comfort of your own home. So start saving for our "Black Friday" Sale Event starting at 12:01 a.m., because we have set aside lots of new merchandise that will go up on our web site at 12:01 a.m. Friday, 11/26/10!

Retro Kitten Apparel’s “Black Friday” Sales Event is going to be the event of the year! We will beat all alternative retail store sales and we can’t wait! So get ready and get over to Retro Kitten Apparel at www.retrokittenapparel.com and get familiar with the store now.

We will also be having sales all month long to give thanks to our customers and everyone who has helped get Retro Kitten Apparel off the ground and going strong into our 3rd year! THANK YOU EVERYONE! So check out our homepage throughout November for weekly sales and discount codes! We have a huge inventory of men, women, and children’s clothing, shoes, accessories, jewerly, coats and sweaters, vintage undergarments, Manic Panic hair dye and bleach kits, Pin-up, Punk, and Rockabilly posters, Retro Lovely magazine, etc. all at less than 50% off retail already so add us to your faves and tell your friends about us!

We will post the “Black Friday” Sales Event Instructions and Coupon Code on our homepage on Thanksgiving Day!

Here are a few tips to help you get a jump on online shopping for “Black Friday”:

• Read our instructions on "How To Place An Order" under our “Store Policy” section tab located at the top of any of our web pages on our web site. *Don’t forget to read our "Return Policy", also located in our Store Policy section, so you don’t get any surprises if you decide you’d like to return an item. Then test out our checkout process. You can mess around adding and deleting items to and from your cart, filling out your address, choosing shipping methods and hitting apply to see how much shipping you would pay (we charge by weight of your entire order), entering your credit card information and reviewing order. But stop there, and don't hit the send order button at the bottom of the "Order Review" page as that is when your credit card will be charged and the order will be placed. Please read the instructions first so you know what you are doing and at what point your credit card gets charged (as noted above) before you do a practice run;

• Check out the different sections we have in our store and add the sections pages you will most likely find items you would be interested in to your “favorites” on your computer with a name that you will remember (i.e. add a folder titled Black Friday sales with a sub-folder called Retro Kitten Apparel and add the section pages from our store in that folder with a title such as black retro 50's swing dress, or Dresses section, etc.). This will save you time when 12:01 a.m. rolls around on “Black Friday” while everyone else is frantically searching all over the store for things they want. For example: If you are a size 5 and you like dresses then go to the dress section and click on Dresses in small and medium sizes in our dress section and you will be taken to the page that only lists small and medium sized dresses. This is a first come first serve deal and the first person to finish the check out process gets the items in their cart even if that item was in 100 other carts as well;

• Go on our website before 12:01 a.m. on “Black Friday” and add an item that you want that is already up on the web site and fill out the checkout form with your name, address, phone number, shipping method, etc. That way all your information will be entered which will save you lots of precious time. I’m am unsure of how long your items will sit in your basket so I recommend doing this at around 11:00 p.m. Thursday night and leaving that window open on your computer, then sit poised on our checkout page, ready for the clock to hit 12:01 a.m., and click on the "Continue Shopping" link just below the table of items on the checkout page. You should then be taken to our home page and you should see the notice that states “Black Friday” Sale Has Begun. If not, hit the refresh button. As soon as you see that you will also see all the new items we’ve added for “Black Friday”. If something goes wrong, don't fret, just begin shopping and go through the checkout process and remember to have a good time.

• Keep your cool and be calm. Steady wins the race.

All items added for the "Black Friday" Sale Event will remain available after the sale is over, as long as they haven’t sold, however everything will return to its normal price.

WHO ARE YOU? Punk, Rockabilly, Psychobilly, Mod, Goth, Emo, Scene, Skinhead, Rocker? DOES THE LABEL REALLY MATTER?

WHO ARE YOU? Punk, Rockabilly, Psychobilly, Mod, Goth, Emo, Scene, Skinhead, Rocker? DOES THE LABEL REALLY MATTER?

Let me tell you my story and we’ll get to the subject of this topic afterwards…

At 12 years old I started changing inside and was drawn to the alternative lifestyle. I have always been introverted, and developed an anxiety disorder, which hadn’t been diagnosed yet. It all began with the band The Cure, and I started listening to all kinds of alternative music that you could dance to. I began dressing in black and I cut my hair short on one side that gradually got longer around the back of my head to really long bangs that hung down over one eye, and I started hanging out in the alternative dance clubs where they played bands like Depeche Mode, New Order, etc. I met a whole new crowd of friends, and left the old ones behind.

After about a year of changing my persona and slowly drifting towards the darker alternative side of life, I was officially part of “the underground scene”. After awhile, I started to steer more towards the hardcore punk scene. I liked the punk look better, and I loved the punk boys! The music took a little getting used to so I listed to a mixture of alternative music and punk music like the bands I mentioned before, and now The Cramps, Minor Threat, GBH, The Exploited, The Adicts, etc.

After a few years in the scene, I felt myself changing inside again. I was drawn to a more chill laid back kind of lifestyle and the freedom of the hippy lifestyle. I decided I wanted to get lost in a care-free world where no one judged me, and everything was happy go lucky. So I started my long strange trip into the world of acid, rainbow children, and The Grateful Dead. I listened to The Doors, Janis Joplin, Pink Floyd, etc., but that didn’t last too long. I was too much of an introvert, and somewhat of an asshole, to let go of all my fears and fully join the hippy culture.

But I wasn’t quite ready to go back to my punk friends or the punk scene, because I had discovered heavy metal music, skin tight zip-around jeans, and long feathered hair. I began listening to Metallica (before the black album), Slayer, Judas Priest, etc. and I loved the long haired boys! I was probably close to 17 then. In the metal scene I could let out my anger, get lost in the music, and party all night and sleep all day.

But after a few years of that, I missed my punk rock roots. I had baby now, and I was married to an ex con peckerwood, and I was, well…lost. I loved my baby, and my husband, but I didn’t like who I was. I needed to get back to my roots of punk rock, and so my journey began...I scored on a pair of T.U.K. mondo creepers in black with white tops at a thrift shop, slid my feet down inside, traded my skin tight zip-arounds for skin tight red plaid skinny jeans, my Slayer tee for a Cramps tee, and I was back.

Now, I am 35 years old, and a widow with one child. I've tried on many "shells" throughout my life, and through it all I've kept a little of everything inside. I listen to punk rock, I dress mostly punk and sometimes psychobilly, I have emo hair, snakebite piercings and one dimple piercing, I’m pretty much tattooed all over, but, all in all, one thing has always stayed the same and that is I’m an introvert and I have an anxiety disorder. I used to fight a lot due to this, but now I just try to avoid situations that make me angry. So I spend most my time in my home with my boyfriend, who is also an old school punk, and my daughter (who is starting to dress scene now and I just gave her the coolest little scene haircut). My boyfriend and I go out sometimes to a punk show and hang towards the back, or drop by and visit friends in calmer atmospheres, and I enjoy every minute of it.

So back to my question, and the title of this post: Who are you? Punk, rockabilly, psychobilly, mod, goth, emo, scene, skinhead, rocker? Does the label really matter? At 35 years of age, I think what matters most is that you are who you are and that you allow yourself to express it no matter what anyone else thinks. We have one life, and don’t be ashamed of the things you like, or the way you want to dress. It’s up to you. Nobody can call you a poser if your living your life the way you want to. You’re only a poser if you live your life the way someone else tells you to. Be true to yourself and remember you are who you are whether anybody else likes it!

You can see photos of how I look today in the photograph section one step above the Articles section.

Business Name Change!

Gypsies Do It Better is in the process of changing it's name! The new name will be Retro Kitten Apparel. I am working with an artist who will be creating a new logo as well and we think you'll love it!

I have considered changing our name for months now as gypsiesdoitbetter didn't really match our merchandise, and we think Retro Kitten Apparel will suit the store and you, the customer and friend, much more! I also kinda like it! The origin of the original name "Gypsies Do It Better" came to fruition because, I, myself, am a gypsy and my lifestyle of traveling, wheelin' n dealin', and second hand thrift shoping ultimately turned into a successfull online business! But that name was pretty confusing as, although it meant something to me, it didnt truely represent the nature of the store, the merchandise, and the people who would ultimately shop here. It misrepresented our style completely. While I have been busy getting the store off the ground, I have also been contemplating the perfect name to represent the store and the customer, which is a Retro, Rockabilly, Vintage, Pinup, and Punk Second Hand store.

I love the leopard spotted shoe I chose for my logo, and I actually own those shoes, but I am working with Mark Wasyl, an awsome pinup artist, who is going to do the artwork for my new logo! I can't wait to share it with you! So, please be patient with us through this process and we're sure you love the outcome!

We have kept both URL's www.gypsiesdoitbetter.com and www.retrokittenapparel.com, and typing in either URL will always direct you to Retro Kitten Apparel. However, I am only going to keep the new email addresses: retrokittenapparel@yahoo.com, retrokittenmailer@yahoo.com, lindsay@retrokittenapparel.com, and support@retrokittenapparel.com. The old email addresses for gypsiesdoitbetter will only redirect you to our new email address for a limited time. So please be sure to add us to your contacts so we don't wind up in your black hole of spam.

I will keep you updated on important information here on the blog so check back often!

PS: Amidst all the changes, we are continuing to add lots of new merchandise. Check out our women's tops section now for lots of great new additions, and check back often as we have lots of merchandise to add to all our other catagories.

Plus, we are adding a new section to the store: Retro Housewares, Decor & Entertainment where you will find authentic 1950's appliances, housewares, decorations, and memorabillia! Have you been wanting redecorate your kitchen to reflect the great 1950's diners of the past? Or make your living room a tiki lounge? Well we're here to help with authentic, quality retro and vintage housewares, and some reproductions, but we're gonna stick mainly to the originals!

Thanks for shopping at Retro Kitten Apparel formerly Gyspies Do It Better!
